EU Conformity to USB-IF Specifications (IEC 62680)
In the European market, USB Type-C® and USB Power Delivery (USB PD) have become the core of the common charging solution. The EU Common Charger Directive and Radio Equipment Directive (RED) require relevant products to comply with the USB-IF Specifications (IEC 62680).
As a USB-IF authorized Independent Test Lab (ITL), iST provides EU Conformity testing services to help OEMs and ODMs achieve fast and effective compliance with EU regulatory requirements before product shipment. According to EU legislation, 13 categories of devices—including smartphones and laptops—must comply with USB Type-C® and Power Delivery standards. Testing reduces risks by preventing rejection or withdrawal due to non-compliance, while accelerating time-to-market.
The EU Conformity Program is fully aligned with EU legislative requirements and covers the complete set of charging protocol specifications, primarily based on the following technical documents:
- The ‘Universal Serial Bus Power Delivery Specification, Revision 3.2, Version 1.1, 2024-10’ issued by the USB Promoter Group and the USB-IF.
IEC 62680-1-2:2024 - The ‘Universal Serial Bus Type-C® Cable and Connector Specification, Release 2.4, October 2024’ issued by the USB 3.0 Promoter Group and the USB-IF.
IEC 62680-1-3:2024

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Here are some of the most common questions about the USB-IF EU Conformity testing process, provided for your reference.
Q:Can a Type-C connector apply for USB-IF EU Conformity without obtaining a TID?
A:No. A valid TID is required for any Type-C connector.
Q:If a product has already passed USB-IF Compliance, is USB-IF EU Conformity still required?
A:No. The USB-IF Compliance test already covers the IEC 62680 conformity requirements.
Q :After passing USB-IF EU Conformity, can the product use the USB-IF logo?
A :No. Only products that have passed the official USB-IF Compliance Test Program are authorized to use the USB-IF logo.
Q :If a product passed USB-IF Compliance testing several years ago, can it still apply for USB-IF EU Conformity now?
A :In principle, yes. However, we will need to review which version of the Power Delivery specification was certified at that time.
