Component Vibration Test
 

When conducting vibration test on systems/ modules, the natural frequency of components on the PCB may cause higher oscillation due to its support or structure design. In addition, the smaller the component is, the higher its natural frequency is. Therefore, smaller and lighter IC components are often subjected to a high frequency vibration testing. For Passive Components, the MIL-TSD-202F is mainly used; for IC, the MIL-STD-883E is often used.

Test conditions of passive components
  
MIL-STD-202F Method 204D Condition B (Sine)
Frequency: 10~2KHz, 0.06inch amplitude and 15g acceleration
Axes: X, Y, Z
Number of cycles: 12 cycles each axes
   MIL-STD-202F Method 204D Condition B (Random)
Frequency: 50-100-1000-2000Hz, +6/-12dB with 7.56 grms
Axes and Time: X, Y, Z (3 mins, 15 mins, 1.5 hrs or 8 hrs for each axes)

Test conditions of ICs
  
MIL-STD-883F Method 2005.2 Condition A (Sine Fatigue)
Frequency: 10~2KHz, 0.06inch amplitude and 20g acceleration
Axes and cycle time: X, Y, Z (32 hours each axis)
   MIL-STD-883F Method 2007.3 Condition A (Sine)
Frequency: 10~2KHz, 0.06inch amplitude and 20g acceleration
Axes: X, Y, Z
Number of cycles: 4 cycles for each axis (each cycle is over 4 minutes)

Components for automotive usage have higher vibration standards than for consumer products. Currently, most automotive electronics standards refer to the Automotive Electronics Council (AEC).
